Making History in the Pakistan Army

Lt Gen Nigar Johar made history by becoming the first woman in Pakistan’s military to reach the rank of a three-star general. Her promotion as Surgeon General of the Pakistan Army marked a major breakthrough for women in the armed forces. It showcased resilience, intelligence, and dedication.

A Humble Beginning in Swabi

Nigar Johar was born into a Pashtun family in Swabi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Her father served in the army, which inspired her from an early age. Discipline and purpose shaped her childhood.

She graduated from the Army Medical College and chose military medicine as her career. That decision would later challenge gender norms in one of the most male-dominated institutions.

Climbing the Ranks with Dedication

Lt Gen Johar worked tirelessly in the medical corps. Her professionalism earned her rapid promotions. She specialized in advanced medical fields and earned multiple postgraduate degrees. These included an MS in Advanced Medical Administration and a Master’s in Public Health.

She built a reputation for excellence in both medicine and leadership, becoming one of the most respected officers in the Pakistan Army.

This achievement was more than a personal success. It sent a powerful message to women across the country: leadership has no gender.

A Leader of Strength and Humility

Known for her calm nature and quiet strength, Lt Gen Johar often speaks about hard work, education, and integrity. Her leadership helped modernize military healthcare and improve the army’s medical preparedness.

Inspiration for Future Generations

Lt Gen Nigar Johar is now a symbol of empowerment and progress. Her story continues to inspire women and young people across Pakistan. She proved that determination and purpose can break any barrier.
