Chinese EV giant BYD will begin assembling electric vehicles in Pakistan by mid-2026. This move will mark a major turning point in the country’s automotive industry. The company is also planning to introduce its first domestically assembled EV in July or August 2026. As the demand of electric and hybrid cars is increasing in Pakistan and other neighboring markets, BYD is entering the scene to cover these demands with effective and sustainable solutions.
Its EV manufacturer has already started building its assembly plant in Karachi near vicinity. BYD opened the plant in April 2024 as a joint venture with Mega Motor Company, a subsidiary of Hub Power. The plant will start by manufacturing 25,000 units per year. Although the factory will import key EV components, the non-electric components will be locally sourced and produced in Pakistan. BYD will focus on domestic sales and will consider exporting to neighboring countries in case the costs of operation are competitive.
Good Local Demand Boosts Growth
In January 2024, BYD started to sell imported electric vehicles in Pakistan. It shipped its initial EVs in March. Danish Khaliq, BYD Pakistan Vice President of Sales and Strategy, states that the company has surpassed its original sales expectations by more than 30 percent. This increased demand shows an increasing interest in Pakistani consumers towards clean and energy-efficient mobility solutions.

Increasing Jobs, Technology and Sustainability
The new assembly plant will create jobs, bring in advanced EV technology and help Pakistan move toward cleaner transport infrastructure. The partnership not only highlights the country’s potential as an emerging EV market, but it also demonstrates how appealing Pakistan is to international investors looking to expand their sustainable transportation solutions. BYD’s investment makes Pakistan a regional hub for electric vehicle production, making EVs more accessible and cheap to local drivers.
