Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has made a bold PTI dialogue appeal, urging state institutions to engage with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and accept accountability. Addressing reporters in Lahore on Saturday, Gandapur launched a renewed effort to secure party founder Imran Khan’s release.
Gandapur, alongside top PTI leaders, called for unity and self-reflection. “Let us sit together, acknowledge mistakes, and chart a better path forward for the country,” he said.

PTI’s Nationwide Protest Campaign Launched
The visit to Lahore marks the formal launch of PTI’s protest movement. It aims to culminate on August 5 the second anniversary of Imran Khan’s imprisonment. The former Prime Minister serves sentences in multiple cases, including the £190 million corruption case and others related to gifts received during his tenure.
PTI considers the cases as politically motivated efforts to silence its leadership. The party has staged numerous protests throughout the year, often resulting in violent clashes with authorities.
Imran Khan Open to Negotiation for National Interest
CM Gandapur reminded the public and institutions that despite Imran Khan’s incarceration and the imprisonment of his wife in a graft case, the PTI leader remains willing to engage in talks. “He is ready to negotiate, for the country’s sake,” Gandapur stated.
The CM criticized state institutions for dereliction of constitutional duty. “The very institutions responsible for protecting borders are instead pursuing political vendettas against PTI,” he claimed.
Security Situation Worsening in KP and Balochistan
Highlighting growing security concerns, Gandapur said that the focus of security agencies on internal political suppression has resulted in rising terrorism, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. “The neglect of constitutional responsibilities has directly contributed to deteriorating law and order,” he emphasized.
He further accused security agencies of playing roles in the formation and dismantling of governments, contrary to their supposed apolitical stance. “They proudly claim to be non-political, yet actively manipulate the political landscape,” he added.
Military’s Image Tarnished by Individual Decisions
Gandapur, whose family includes military personnel, voiced his concern that the actions of a few have brought disrepute to the military institution as a whole. “I am a soldier’s son and brother. My military’s reputation is being tarnished by a handful of individuals making wrong decisions,” he lamented.
Parliamentary Caravan Reaches Lahore for Strategic Planning
A caravan of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lawmakers led by CM Gandapur, along with Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmad Khan Bhachar, reached Lahore via G.T. Road. The convoy made a stop in Jhelum, where Gandapur announced the start of the protest campaign.
In Lahore, the party is expected to hold a parliamentary meeting to finalize the protest strategy. The plan aims to build momentum leading up to the nationwide protest climax on August 5.
The Context of Imran Khan’s Incarceration
Imran Khan was arrested on August 5, 2023, in a case related to state gifts. He is currently serving time at Adiala Jail and faces multiple legal proceedings, including pending trials connected to the May 9, 2023 riots. PTI maintains that all charges are baseless and politically motivated.
Following the May 9 protests, during which several military installations were attacked, the state initiated a severe crackdown. Thousands of PTI workers and virtually the entire top-tier leadership were detained. Many still face serious charges and ongoing court cases.
Constitutional Role of State Institutions Under Scrutiny
Gandapur’s remarks have intensified the debate over the constitutional roles and responsibilities of Pakistan’s state institutions. He argued that their involvement in political engineering violates democratic principles and undermines public trust.
His comments come at a time when the government’s actions are under critical scrutiny, especially concerning human rights violations and suppression of political dissent.

PTI Calls for Collective Responsibility and National Dialogue
Concluding his address, Gandapur urged a united national approach. “This is a collective responsibility. We must prioritize Pakistan over individual or institutional egos,” he asserted.
He reiterated that PTI is not against dialogue but demands a fair and honest conversation. “Let us correct the course together before it’s too late,” he said, inviting all stakeholders, including the military and judiciary, to step back from confrontation.
Outlook: Mounting Pressure Ahead of August 5
With the August 5 deadline approaching, PTI plans to intensify its mobilization. The protests are expected to gain traction across provinces as party leaders ramp up public engagement and media outreach.
Gandapur’s challenge to state institutions sets the stage for a crucial political juncture. Whether the establishment responds with dialogue or further repression could define Pakistan’s political trajectory in the coming months.
