The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has officially adopted the Tehran Declaration, marking a unified step toward advancing artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation for sustainable development among its member states.

This milestone was reached during the Second Ministerial Meeting of the OIC-15 Dialogue Platform, held in Tehran, with high-level participation from Brunei, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkiye, and Qatar.

The Tehran Declaration focuses on the core objective of fostering “trustworthy and ethical AI for sustainable development” across OIC countries.

Key Highlights of the Tehran Declaration on AI

  • Collaboration in AI education, research, and governance
  • Development of robust AI infrastructure and promotion of technology transfer
  • Creation of AI-ready ecosystems and facilitation of talent mobility
  • Encouragement of public-private partnerships and sharing of best practices

Strategic Initiatives and Focus Areas

OIC member states pledged to invest in AI startups, offer fellowship and training programmes, and launch innovation forums. The declaration also promotes joint research projects to tackle shared challenges such as:

  • Healthcare
  • Climate change
  • Food security
  • Water scarcity

Comstech’s Commitment

Prof. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of OIC-Comstech, led a four-member delegation and underscored the transformative power of artificial intelligence in reshaping the Muslim world’s future in science, education, and economic growth.

He reaffirmed Comstech’s full commitment to supporting institutional collaborations and joint initiatives within the OIC-15 framework.
