Army Chief Asim Munir in Tehran for High-Level Security Talks

Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, held key talks with senior Iranian military officials in Tehran on Tuesday. The discussions focused on enhancing defence cooperation and strengthening border security.

During his visit to Iran’s General Staff Headquarters, Field Marshal Munir met Major General Mohammad Bagheri. He is the Chief of the General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces. Both sides stressed the importance of stronger military coordination and addressed the evolving regional security situation.

They also discussed transforming the Pakistan-Iran border into a center for trade and economic activity. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to regional peace and prosperity.

The Iranian Armed Forces received Field Marshal Munir with full military honours. A ceremonial guard of honour was also presented.

Munir later joined Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for high-level meetings with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei. They also met President Masoud Pezeshkian. These engagements highlighted Pakistan’s strategic ties with Iran.

Tehran is one of several stops on a broader diplomatic tour. The tour includes visits to Türkiye, Iran, and Azerbaijan. Its goal is to build regional alliances and promote shared development.

Earlier in the week, First Lady Aseefa Bhutto Zardari hosted a top Iranian delegation at Bilawal House. The group was led by Dr. Reyhaneh Sadat Raeisi, daughter of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi. Talks focused on healthcare cooperation, cultural exchange, and diplomatic relations.

Aseefa Bhutto Zardari praised Iran’s support for Pakistan and its achievements in the healthcare sector. She emphasized the historical and cultural bond between the two nations.

Other key attendees included Senator Saleem Mandviwalla and Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho. They highlighted the value of ongoing cultural and diplomatic cooperation.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sharif arrived in Azerbaijan. This visit follows earlier meetings in Türkiye and Iran. His tour aims to deepen diplomatic and economic partnerships across the region.

The visit will conclude in Tajikistan, where PM Sharif will attend the International Conference on Glaciers from May 29 to 30.
