Islamabad police have registered a murder case after 17-year-old social media star Sana Yousaf was fatally shot inside her home. Authorities are actively investigating the incident, which has shocked the online community and raised concerns about safety for young influencers.

Murder Case Registered After Fatal Shooting of Sana Yousaf

On Monday evening, the Sumbal police station received a complaint from Sana’s mother, Farzana Yousaf, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with intentional murder. The complaint named an unknown assailant who forcibly entered the family home in Islamabad and shot Sana.

Eyewitness Account Reveals Sudden Attack Inside Family Home

According to the FIR, the unidentified attacker entered the house at approximately 5 PM, holding a pistol. Farzana stated the man fired directly at Sana with clear intent to kill. Two bullets hit Sana’s chest, causing critical injuries. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Sana could not be saved and died from her wounds.

Farzana and her sister-in-law, Lateefa Shah, both witnessed the attack. They described the suspect as a man of average height and build, wearing a black shirt and pants with a smart appearance. Both women expressed confidence that they would recognize the attacker if shown his face.

Family Members Absent During Incident

At the time of the shooting, Sana’s 15-year-old brother was away visiting their native village in Upper Chitral, which left only Farzana and Lateefa present at home. The mother’s detailed report helps police narrow down leads as the investigation proceeds.

Sana Yousaf’s Rising Influence on Social Media

Sana had gained widespread popularity as a content creator, amassing nearly 800,000 followers on TikTok and close to 500,000 on Instagram. Her influence among young audiences made her a prominent figure on Pakistan’s digital platforms.

Her tragic death has raised alarms regarding the safety and security of social media personalities, especially those in the spotlight from a young age.

Social Media Safety Concerns Amplified by Similar Incidents

This tragic shooting follows other alarming events involving social media influencers in Pakistan. In January, police reported that a man from Quetta admitted to murdering his 15-year-old daughter over disagreements related to her TikTok videos. The confession highlighted the risks influencers face in conservative communities.

Additionally, two male TikTok creators died in separate incidents in Lahore the same month, when their pistols accidentally discharged. These cases have intensified debates about young content creators’ safety and responsible firearm use.

TikTok’s Popularity and Regulatory Challenges in Pakistan

TikTok remains extremely popular in Pakistan, with over 54 million users engaging on the platform. However, authorities have intermittently banned the app, citing content that violates cultural or religious norms.

In 2021 alone, Pakistan imposed four bans on TikTok, reflecting ongoing struggles to balance creative freedom with societal values. Currently, the app operates under strict moderation policies and complies with government requests to remove objectionable content.

Police Intensify Hunt for the Killer

The Islamabad police continue their investigation with full support from the victim’s family. They are analyzing security footage, interviewing witnesses, and following leads to identify and apprehend the suspect.

Farzana’s appeal for justice underscores the urgency of bringing the perpetrator to account. Meanwhile, the community mourns the loss of a vibrant young influencer whose life ended far too soon.
