ISLAMABAD – National snooker player Babar Masih urged the federal government and Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) on Wednesday to recognize his achievements on the international stage. Speaking at a press conference held at former federal minister J. Salik’s residence, Babar expressed frustration over the lack of support despite winning many medals for Pakistan.

Babar said he represented Pakistan in many international snooker events and won medals repeatedly. Still, officials have overlooked him for rewards and recognition. “I do not understand why I have not received prize money or official attention given to athletes who bring honor to the country,” he said, mentioning his recent win over India’s top player, Pankaj Advani.

He added, “I have a long list of medals but never got government recognition or financial rewards.” Babar asked Prime Minister “Shehbaz Sharif”, adviser Rana Sanaullah Khan, and PSB Director General Yasir Pirzada to pay attention to his concerns and acknowledge his contributions.

Career Highlights, PSB’s Role, and Federation Reaction

Babar said he became Asian champion three times in team events and world champion once, also in a team event. He has won four gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals throughout his career. But he chastised the Pakistan Billiards as well as Snooker Association (PBSA) for ignoring private tours completely and failing to keep their word regarding official tours.

Babar Masih has won medals in the team competitions, according to a PBSA official, but he hasn’t yet taken home a significant individual international title. The official acknowledged that Babar deserves recognition for his achievements.

PSB Director General Yasir responded by saying the Board’s athlete reward policies are public. He invited Babar to visit the PSB and present his case if his accomplishments meet eligibility criteria.

Separately, PBSA chairman Alamgir A. Shaikh met with Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani and PSB Director General Yasir. Alamgir requested the release of the federation’s annual and special grants. He was given the assurance by the IPC secretary that the issue would be covered at the upcoming PSB meeting. During the meeting, Alamgir also brought up a number of persistent problems the federation has faced.
