Karachi’s Getting Double-Decker Buses – Here’s What to Expect

The Sindh government has officially announced that Karachi double-decker buses will begin operating in Karachi next month. This development is part of the People’s Bus Service (PBS) expansion, aimed at modernizing the city’s public transport system.

What the Minister Said

Sindh Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon confirmed the news. He stated that the procurement process is nearly complete. Moreover, he emphasized the government’s commitment to offering citizens affordable, eco-friendly, and reliable transport options.

Electric Buses Also on the Way

In addition to the double-decker buses, Karachi will receive 34 new electric buses in June. Furthermore, another 100 buses are expected to be added later in the month. These efforts aim to ease traffic congestion while offering commuters more sustainable travel choices.

Where Will They Operate?

The double-decker buses will run on major routes such as Sharea Faisal. As a result, they will provide greater passenger capacity and a better commuting experience for daily travelers.

Removing Unsafe Vehicles

To ensure safety, the Sindh government has decided to cancel the registration of old and defective commercial vehicles. This step is part of a broader effort to modernize public transportation.

What It Means for Karachi

These upgrades show the government’s commitment to transforming Karachi’s transport system. With safer, cleaner, and more efficient services, commuters will enjoy better travel experiences, and the city will benefit from improved mobility.

The Sindh government has taken significant steps to improve Karachi’s public transport by focusing on safety and sustainability. Along with introducing modern double-decker and electric buses, officials are actively removing unsafe and old commercial vehicles from the roads. This move aims to reduce accidents and pollution, making daily commutes safer for everyone. Additionally, the government plans to expand route coverage and increase bus frequency to reduce wait times. Public feedback will be encouraged to tailor services better to commuters’ needs. These combined efforts highlight a clear commitment to transforming Karachi’s transport system into a modern, efficient network.
