Chinese EV Giant to Set Up Assembly Plant in Punjab’s Special Economic Zone

Punjab Skywell electric vehicle. Punjab Industries & Commerce Department has signed a key memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Skywell New Energy Vehicles Group to establish a large-scale electric vehicle (EV) assembly plant in the province. This project will mark a significant foreign direct investment in Pakistan’s clean transportation sector.

According to the agreement, Skywell will construct the plant over 75 acres of land located in Punjab’s Special Economic Zone. The Chinese firm aims to manufacture electric buses, cars, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and a wide range of EVs for both the domestic and export markets.

High-Level Ceremony and Strategic Alliance

The signing ceremony took place at the Punjab Small Industries Corporation (PSIC) office. Punjab’s Minister for Industries, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, and Skywell’s CEO, Biwan Han, formalized the agreement.

Minister Hussain expressed his full support for this investment, highlighting the Punjab government’s active promotion of environmentally friendly initiatives under Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s leadership. He affirmed the government’s commitment to facilitating all companies working in EV manufacturing, battery production, and the development of charging infrastructure.

Green Growth and Employment Drive

Hussain emphasized that developing the electric vehicle sector aligns with Punjab’s broader goals of green industrialization and job creation. “This plant will not only support clean energy but also open doors for new employment opportunities across the province,” he said.

The minister reaffirmed the Punjab government’s dedication to attracting new investments and encouraging industrial expansion. He assured all foreign investors, particularly Chinese companies, that they will receive top-tier security and logistical support. “We’ve created an investor-friendly environment where both local and international companies can thrive,” he added.

Skywell’s Commitment to Pakistani Market

Skywell CEO Biwan Han conveyed strong interest in the Pakistani EV market. He stated that the new plant would serve both local transportation needs and export demands, allowing Pakistan to position itself on the global EV manufacturing map.

A Step Toward Clean, Sustainable Transport

This collaboration is set to drive Punjab’s transition to clean energy solutions. With Skywell’s entry, Punjab is expected to become a key player in Asia’s growing EV market. The initiative not only supports climate goals but also strengthens Pakistan’s industrial base with modern, export-ready technology.
