ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Russia energy cooperation. Pakistan took a major step in its energy strategy by holding high-level talks with Gazprom International, Russia’s leading oil and gas firm. The Pakistani team was led by Ali Pervaiz Malik, Federal Minister for Petroleum. Sergey Tumanov, General Director of Gazprom International, led the Russian side. Ahmed Hayat Lak, MD/CEO of OGDCL, also joined the session.

Joint Ventures and Exploration on the Agenda

The meeting, held in Islamabad, focused on building the Pakistan-Russia energy partnership. Both sides showed strong interest in joint ventures, oil and gas exploration, and infrastructure development. As a result, they agreed to pursue long-term cooperation that meets Pakistan’s rising energy needs.

OGDCL Seeks Global Support for Growth

OGDCL, Pakistan’s top oil and gas firm, aims to improve local energy production. To do this, it needs advanced technology and investment. Therefore, partnering with a global player like Gazprom can help achieve these goals. Gazprom’s global experience and technical strength make it an ideal partner.

Key Areas for Collaboration

The discussion covered multiple areas of possible cooperation. These included upstream oil and gas projects, infrastructure investments, LNG supply, and technical training. Moreover, the talks followed recent efforts between Islamabad and Moscow to broaden economic and energy ties.

Clear Commitment from Leadership

Ali Pervaiz Malik stressed Pakistan’s need for energy diversity. He noted that international collaboration will ensure energy security and sustainable growth. Sergey Tumanov praised Pakistan’s energy potential and expressed Gazprom’s readiness to work closely with OGDCL.

Ahmed Hayat Lak added that Russian support could transform Pakistan’s upstream sector. He confirmed that both companies would stay in close contact. They plan to explore projects and partnerships in the coming weeks.

Diplomatic Shift in Energy Strategy

This engagement signals a new direction in Pakistan’s energy diplomacy. By expanding the Pakistan-Russia energy partnership, the country strengthens its energy supply and builds ties with the Eurasian region.

Benefits for Both Nations

Experts believe this partnership could lower energy import costs and reduce Pakistan’s fuel shortage. At the same time, it could open job opportunities. For Russia, it provides access to a growing South Asian market. This is especially important in today’s changing global energy landscape.

Next Steps Toward Implementation

Technical teams from OGDCL and Gazprom will now begin feasibility studies. They will create detailed project plans. Eventually, both countries aim to sign formal agreements and begin joint operations.

Conclusion

This meeting represents a key moment in Pakistan-Russia relations. It marks the beginning of a future focused on shared energy goals. Through collaboration and innovation, both nations aim to achieve long-term economic and energy success.
