Players Stunned With Rs. 6,000 Cheque After Reaching FIH Nations Cup Final
The Pakistan hockey team reward situation has sparked outrage after national players were handed cheques of just 6,000 PKR each by the Sports Board. This is despite the team having made an unbelievable feat by beating world number 10 France to make it to the final of the prestigious FIH Nations Cup.
During the tournament, the national team was fighting not only with the best international teams but also with internal problems. Their trip has not been smooth with unpaid daily allowances and camp payments delayed. However, they did not give up and gave their best with young goalkeeper Muneeb shining in the shootout and Head Coach Tahir Zaman leading the team. Rana Waheed Ashraf was also brilliant at the critical moments of the game.

The Tension Builds Up with Internal Federation Problems
Although the spirit and commitment of the team are high, the reward provided is an indication of neglect in the system. The Rs. 6,000 cheque has been a big disappointment to players and fans. This token gesture is perceived by many around the country as a slap in the face instead of a celebration of the effort of the team.
The Pakistan Hockey Federation is still struggling with some major problems behind the scenes, such as bad management, internal strife, and regular financial mismanagement. These structural weaknesses put a tremendous burden on the players who are already making sacrifices to play at international levels on behalf of the country.
The team has shown that they are talented and determined to compete with the rest of the world despite the limited resources. However, in order to maintain pace and effectively resuscitate the sport, the system must provide players with financial support.
The country should not give handouts to its athletes symbolically. It is not enough to be proud. Pakistan hockey needs the respect of officials, equitable compensation, and timely support to return to its former glory.
