Trump slams Israel prosecutors over the corruption trial of Israeli Prime Minister “Benjamin Netanyahu”. In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, the former US President criticized the Israeli legal system. He stated that this would not be tolerated by the United States that provides billions of dollars in aid to Israel.
In 2019, Netanyahu was indicted by Israel on bribery, fraud, and breach of trust charges. He refutes all the charges. His trial began in 2020 and involves three distinct criminal cases.
Trump tweeted, It is INSANITY what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu. He claimed that the legal procedure was disrupting the capacity of Netanyahu to handle negotiations. These involve negotiations with Palestinian organization Hamas and Iran.
In a more recent post, Trump came to the defense of Netanyahu once again. He linked the legal action with American financial aid. He said, the United States of America spends Billions of Dollar [sic] a year, more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We will not put up with this.”
Donald Trump also said that Netanyahu was making a deal with Hamas. He did not however share any details. Trump said on Friday that he thought a ceasefire was imminent.
Tensions in Iran & Gaza Increase Pressure
Hamas has indicated that it is willing to free the rest of the hostages in Gaza. This would form any final agreement to stop the war. Israel, however, maintains that it will not cease the war until Hamas disarms and dismantles. Hamas is not willing to give up its arms.
The attempts to resolve the Gaza conflict have become urgent. This is after the recent US and Israeli air attacks on the Iranian nuclear installations. An armistice in the 12-day war between Israel and Iran came into force earlier this week.
