Bilquis Edhi, widely known as the “Mother of Pakistan,” built a humanitarian legacy that continues to inspire generations. Alongside her husband Abdul Sattar Edhi, she spent decades transforming the lives of the poor, the abandoned, and the forgotten.

Born in 1947, Bilquis joined the Edhi Foundation as a young nurse. Her selfless service soon became the backbone of one of the world’s largest volunteer-run social welfare networks. She managed over 300 cradle centers across Pakistan, encouraging parents to leave unwanted newborns safely instead of abandoning them in dangerous places. Thanks to her, thousands of orphans found loving homes.

Bilquis Edhi led emergency care, women’s shelters, and adoption services, always at the forefront during floods, earthquakes, and famine. Her dedication and humility earned her global respect, yet she remained grounded in her mission to serve humanity.

She received numerous awards, including the Hilal-i-Imtiaz and the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award for Social Justice. Despite these honors, her greatest reward was the love and trust of the people she helped.

The Bilquis Edhi humanitarian legacy lives on through the Edhi Foundation, Pakistan’s largest social welfare organization. The foundation continues to provide vital services, including free hospitals, orphanages, and ambulance services, touching millions of lives across the country.

In today’s world, her life teaches us that even small acts of kindness can create lasting change. Bilquis Edhi did more than care—she transformed the course of humanitarian work in Pakistan, leaving an inspiring legacy of compassion and selfless service that motivates new generations to give back.
