A minor earthquake shook parts of Karachi on Saturday evening, June 1, 2025, sending tremors across Quaidabad and nearby areas. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake struck at 5:33 PM Pakistan Standard Time.

The earthquake originated at a shallow depth of just 10 kilometers and registered a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale. The PMD pinpointed the epicenter at 24.31°N latitude and 67.25°E longitude, near Quaidabad in eastern Karachi.

Many locals felt the ground shake briefly. Startled by the sudden tremors, several people rushed outside their homes and buildings. However, officials have not received any reports of injuries or property damage.

Local authorities and emergency teams responded swiftly. They inspected the area to identify any structural issues or safety concerns. Thankfully, all essential services, including transportation and utilities, continued without disruption. The city quickly returned to its normal pace.

Although the quake was minor, it still caused a moment of concern for residents. The brief tremor prompted precautionary action, especially in older buildings. Emergency teams remained on alert while monitoring the situation.

The PMD continues to observe seismic activity in the region. Officials urged citizens to stay calm and rely only on verified sources for updates. Spreading misinformation, they warned, could cause unnecessary panic.

Earthquake strikes Karachi, suburbs; no damage or casualties reported

Meanwhile, residents should stay prepared for possible future events. They should review emergency plans and check the structural safety of their homes, particularly in quake-prone neighborhoods.

Local authorities and emergency services responded quickly. They inspected the area for safety risks and structural issues. Fortunately, transportation and utilities remained unaffected. Life returned to normal shortly after the tremors.

Authorities urged the public to stay cautious. This is especially important for those living in older buildings or crowded areas like Quaidabad. Even though no injuries were reported, officials emphasized the need for readiness in future quakes.

Mild earthquakes like this are common in Karachi and nearby regions. The city lies near the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plate boundary, making it prone to minor seismic events. However, most of these tremors are shallow and low in magnitude, rarely causing serious harm.

The PMD has confirmed ongoing seismic monitoring in the region. Citizens are advised to avoid spreading false news that could create unnecessary panic. Always rely on official sources for accurate updates.

In the meantime, residents should stay informed. Review emergency plans regularly. Ensure your home is structurally safe, especially if you live in quake-sensitive zones.
