NEC Endorses Massive Budget and Economic Targets
Pakistan development budget 2025-26 The National Economic Council (NEC) under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved Pakistan’s development budget of Rs 4,224 billion for 2025–26 while also setting the target for 4.2% GDP growth. The NEC aims to revive the economy via investment and reforms.
Meeting Held in Islamabad
The meeting took place in Islamabad and included senior officials, federal ministers, as well as all four chief ministers. Participants reviewed national economic progress and set development goals for the new fiscal year.
Focus on Major Development Areas
The Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) will fund large-scale projects across infrastructure, health, education, and energy. The federal government will receive Rs 1,500 billion, while provinces will get the remaining amount through the NFC formula.
PM Emphasizes Efficiency and Accountability
The Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that all departments need to avoid procrastination and work in full cooperation with each other. Shehbaz Sharif said that there is a dire need for transparency and to properly utilize funds. He mentioned that timely completion of projects mixes with timely project execution.
Growth Strategy and Economic Outlook
The 4.2% GDP growth target exhibits realistic confidence. The government acknowledges the difficulties on both global and domestic fronts, however, they feel that through governance and pointed spending, they can reach the goal set out in the budget.

Economic Revival Expected
Economists feel the budget approved may help stabilize the economy. Despite high inflation, a rising domestic debt level, and high currency depreciation rates, the economy has demonstrated a slower growth trend. The new budget hopes to improve productivity and boost jobs.
Provincial Cooperation and Key Initiatives
Provincial Executive Directors enjoyed strong endorsements of the inclusive planning process. The NEC moved forward with approvals for projects relating to clean energy, climate change adaptability, and youth employment. These projects support equitable regional development.
Upcoming Federal Budget Will Reflect NEC Goals
This month’s comprehensive federal budget will in some measure reflect these development priorities. It is anticipated that there will be reforms regarding taxes, energy pricing, and the efficiency of the public sector.
A Step Toward Economic Stability
With NEC approval secured, the government is ready to present a forward-looking federal budget. Experts expect policies that attract investment, promote sustainability, and boost public welfare.
