Sindh Extends Biometric Verification Deadline to August 14

The Sindh government has officially extended the deadline for mandatory biometric verification through NADRA for vehicle transfers and alterations. Sellers now have until August 14 to complete the verification process. This extension comes as part of the province’s broader efforts to make vehicle registration and ownership transfers more secure and transparent.

Why the Deadline Was Extended

Originally announced as a key reform measure by the Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department, the biometric requirement aimed to curb fraudulent transfers and illegal practices in the vehicle sector. However, recognizing the practical difficulties faced by sellers, especially in rural areas and among older vehicle owners, the government decided to give additional time to comply with the new rules.

Biometric Verification Rollout in Three Phases

Sindh’s Senior Minister for Information, Transport, Excise, and Narcotics Control, Sharjeel Memon, outlined a phased approach to implement this policy:

  • Phase One: From July 1, biometric verification became mandatory for all new vehicle registrations.
  • Phase Two: Starting November 1, buyers of used vehicles will need to verify their identity.
  • Phase Three: Eventually, both sellers and buyers will need to complete biometric verification for any vehicle transfer or change.

This structured timeline gives all stakeholders—buyers, sellers, and officials—time to adapt to the new system.

Transparency and Fraud Prevention

Minister Memon emphasized that biometric verification would significantly improve transparency in the registration and transfer process. It ensures that only the rightful owners are involved in transactions, reducing the chances of stolen or disputed vehicles being transferred without the original owner’s consent.

How to Complete the Verification

Vehicle owners can visit any NADRA e-Facilitation Center or the nearest excise office to complete their biometric verification. This step is necessary before initiating any transfer or alteration in vehicle documents. Authorities have also assured that the process is simple and user-friendly, aimed at speeding up services without compromising security.

Final Thoughts

With the deadline now extended to August 14, Sindh’s push for digitized and secure vehicle registration enters a crucial phase. The government believes that this policy not only protects buyers and sellers but also modernizes how public services operate across the province.
