Wasim Akram cricket legend Wasim Akram, the Sultan of Swing, is more than a cricket star—he is a symbol of national pride. Born on June 3, 1966, in Lahore, Pakistan, Wasim Akram began as a raw, young left-arm fast bowler with little formal coaching. Yet, his natural talent quickly caught attention.

His journey from street cricket to international fame began when he debuted for Pakistan in 1984. Right from the start, Wasim displayed exceptional control, speed, and the rare ability to swing the ball both ways. This unique skill set made him a match-winner in any format.

The 1992 World Cup and Global Recognition

Wasim Akram’s defining moment came during the 1992 Cricket World Cup. Under the leadership of Imran Khan, Akram delivered a game-changing performance in the final against England. He not only took key wickets at crucial moments but also contributed important runs, helping Pakistan lift the trophy for the first time.

Over his career, Akram claimed 916 international wickets, including 502 in ODIs, making him the highest wicket-taker among left-arm fast bowlers. He was the first to cross the 500-wicket milestone in ODIs—a record that still stands tall.

After retiring, Wasim Akram transitioned into roles as a commentator, coach, and mentor. He has worked with young fast bowlers across Pakistan and abroad, sharing his experience and love for the game.
