Reportedly detained in solitary confinement, Imran Khan called for a nationwide protest movement. On August 5, the second anniversary of his incarceration in several court cases, the movement hopes to reach its zenith.
Imran Khan announced the end of talks in a statement published on his official X account on Tuesday night. “I made multiple attempts to start talks for the benefit of the nation. However, he stated that the time for that was over. Our hope for judicial justice has diminished since the 26th Amendment to the Constitution. Now, the only way out of this lawless situation is to launch a nationwide protest movement.
Khan’s message was clear even though he doesn’t manage his social media accounts directly. This week, a comprehensive action plan will be unveiled. My two years of unjustified incarceration will come to an end on August 5. Our nationwide protest will come to an end on that day,” he declared. “There won’t be any more conversations with anybody. The only way to liberate the populace from these forcibly installed puppet rulers will be through nonviolent street protests,” he continued.
PTI Verifies August 5 Start of Street Protests
Barrister Gohar confirmed Imran Khan’s call to the media outside Adiala Jail. He called on supporters, party employees, and the general public to join the movement, saying it will be nonviolent but effective. Political retaliation is no longer the focus of this. It concerns the theft of each citizen’s rights,” Gohar stated. He referred to the campaign as a “Second Pakistan Movement.”
Gohar disclosed that Khan maintains his mental toughness in spite of the difficult circumstances in prison. “He has never been sharper. His message is clear despite his silence: get ready, organise, and speak up peacefully and fearlessly, he said.
Additionally, he denounced the mistreatment of Imran Khan and his spouse, Bushra Bibi, by prison officials. He claims that in an effort to quell political opposition, the authorities have purposefully attempted to isolate Khan and have repeatedly disregarded court orders. Gohar voiced concern about Khan’s detention’s disrespect for fundamental rights and the law.
Imran’s Family Participates in the Protest Strategy
Imran’s sister Aleema Khan spoke to the media outside the jail with her sisters. She confirmed that the family fully supports the planned protest, despite the fact that she did not meet him. Aleema stated that Imran’s sons, Qasim and Suleiman, will join the movement in Pakistan after first bringing attention to the injustices done to their father in the United States. She did not, however, say if they would arrive before or after August 5.
The family was now finalising their visitation schedule, she added. “They will undoubtedly take part,” she declared.
Conditions in Prison & Solitary Confinement
Aleema depicted her brother’s life in prison in a sombre manner. For months, he has been in total solitary confinement. Even basic access to television, books, and newspapers has been denied for the past week,” she said. “This isn’t fair.”
Imran had previously informed her that his books were secured in the deputy superintendent’s office, she said. She questioned, “What threat do books pose to the state?” “They wish to cut him off from the outside world, silence his voice, and isolate his mind.”
Aleema expressed grave worries about Khan’s health. His personal physician, who is acquainted with his entire medical history, has been refused access for ten months. Who will be held accountable if something goes wrong? Aleema asked.
She also disclosed that Bushra Bibi is treated similarly. Bhushra Bibi has been kept in isolation without access to sunlight, communication, or visits. She questioned, “Is this how we treat women in custody?”
Aleema charged that authorities were isolating Khan in an attempt to limit his influence. She stated, “They believe that isolating him will weaken him or demoralise his supporters.” “But let me be clear: he is unbreakable.”
She affirmed at the end that her brother’s spirit was stronger than ever. “He assured us that his message would reach the people regardless of the circumstances,” she said.
