Tea offers a natural alternative to coffee and energy drinks, with unique health benefits that set it apart. According to Dr. Luis Rustveld, a registered dietitian and assistant professor at Baylor College of Medicine, tea provides a gentler caffeine boost without the jitteriness or anxiety often linked to coffee or energy drinks.

Caffeine Content Compared:

Tea: 20-70 mg per cup (varies by type)

Coffee: 95-200 mg per cup

Energy Drinks: 80-200 mg per can, often with added stimulants like guarana or taurine

Green and white teas are rich in antioxidants such as catechins and polyphenols, which help combat oxidative stress and may reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Black tea, fully oxidized during processing, has a stronger flavor and higher caffeine (40-70 mg), while green tea offers a lighter taste and lower caffeine (20-45 mg).

Health Considerations:

Avoid excessive sugar, cream, or artificial sweeteners that can negate tea’s benefits.

People with acid reflux, anxiety, or heart conditions should limit caffeine and consider herbal teas like chamomile, peppermint, or rooibos for soothing effects without caffeine.

Herbal teas aid digestion (e.g., peppermint, ginger) and provide antioxidants (e.g., rooibos, hibiscus), supporting overall health and hydration.

Tea is not only a flavorful and calming beverage but also a hydrating alternative to coffee’s mild diuretic effects, making it a smart choice for daily energy and wellness.
