The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall along with gusty and dusty winds across several regions beginning Friday night. The weather shift is expected to bring relief from the persistent heatwave affecting northern parts of the country.
According to the forecast, areas including Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Hazara, Swat, and Mardan are likely to experience rain and windstorms. Similar conditions are also anticipated in cities like Peshawar, Charsadda, Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Sheikhupura.
Rainfall is also expected in Karak, Malakand, Lakki Marwat, Waziristan, and southern districts such as Zhob, Barkhan, Ziarat, Sargodha, Rajanpur, Bhakkar, and Layyah on May 24.
Authorities have warned that strong winds may damage trees, solar panels, and electricity poles, urging the public to take precautionary measures.
“This incoming weather system is likely to ease the severity of the ongoing heatwave in the central and northern parts of the country,” stated the Met Department.
PDMA Issues Rain Alert for Punjab
The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for rain and wind on May 23 and 24, forecasting possible disruptions in most districts, including Lahore. Relevant departments have been notified.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia informed the media that alerts had been shared with departments including Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication & Works, Local Government, and Livestock, advising them to stay on alert.
He added that the expected rainfall would bring much-needed relief from the heat and reduce health risks for vulnerable populations.
Citizens are advised to remain indoors during stormy weather and seek safe shelter to avoid lightning and other dangers.
