Karachi transport budget 2025. The Sindh government has introduced a transformative initiative in its 2025–26 provincial budget, aiming to revamp Karachi’s outdated public transport system. With over Rs. 50 billion earmarked for two major Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) projects, officials hope to relieve traffic congestion, modernize mobility, and uplift the daily experience of millions of commuters.

Massive Investment in Yellow and Red Line BRTs

As a central part of the plan, the provincial government will inject Rs. 27 billion into building the long-delayed Yellow Line BRT, while Rs. 26 billion has been allocated for expanding the Red Line BRT. Together, these projects represent the largest investment in public transport Karachi has seen in decades.

The two BRT lines are designed to provide faster, safer, and more efficient travel across the city. Once operational, they will help reduce travel time, lower pollution levels, and improve daily commuting for millions. More importantly, these projects aim to introduce an affordable, modern, and sustainable transportation option in a city where traffic jams and unsafe public transport are common.

Rs. 110 Billion Development Package with Global Support

The Sindh government has also proposed Rs. 110 billion for six key development projects in Karachi. Out of this total, Rs. 97 billion will come from foreign funding, indicating strong international support and investor confidence in Karachi’s development.

This international partnership not only brings capital but also brings expertise, technology, and accountability. It reflects growing global interest in Karachi’s transformation into a smart, connected, and livable megacity.

Boost to Jobs and Local Economy

The infrastructure upgrades will also fuel economic activity. Thousands of jobs are expected to be created during the construction phase alone, with more emerging through increased connectivity and accessibility. Small businesses, commercial hubs, and residential areas near the BRT routes will likely benefit from the increased footfall and investment.

A Vision for a Cleaner, Greener Karachi

Officials state that this budget is more than just numbers—it’s a roadmap toward a better Karachi. By tackling core urban challenges like traffic congestion, poor air quality, and weak infrastructure, the government is setting the city on a new path toward smart and sustainable urban growth.

With political commitment and global support, Karachi is ready to move forward.
