Pakistan Railways will soon offer free Wi-Fi on 40 trains. Railway Minister Muhammad Hamid Abbasi announced the plan during a press briefing in Multan. This move is part of a larger effort to modernize railway services and enhance the passenger experience across the country.
Responding to directives from the Prime Minister, Pakistan Railways has focused on enhancing both passenger convenience and freight operations. Among the transformative steps, the department will convert 155 railway stations to solar power within two months. This transition represents a significant shift toward green energy in public transportation.
Promoting Connectivity and Sustainability
The Wi-Fi rollout will keep passengers connected during their journeys. It allows them to work, browse the internet, or stay in touch with loved ones. This added convenience is expected to boost passenger satisfaction and increase the overall appeal of train travel.
In addition, the solar power initiative will reduce Pakistan Railways’ reliance on traditional energy sources. By adopting renewable energy, the department is taking a decisive step toward reducing its carbon footprint and supporting national sustainability goals.
Minister Abbasi emphasized that these developments reflect the government’s clear commitment to modernize the rail network and improve service delivery. The initiatives aim to create a travel system that is not only efficient and comfortable but also environmentally responsible.
Pakistan Railways has already begun initial groundwork for implementing these projects. Officials have started identifying priority trains for Wi-Fi installation and shortlisted stations for solar upgrades.
These projects mark the start of a new era in digital connectivity and eco-friendly infrastructure. The department aims to serve the public with modern, forward-looking solutions.
